ABSTRACT NATURE
My aim for this project was to design an inspirational collection of samples for Autumn/ Winter 2016/17 Menswear for a mid to high-end market level of Sport Luxe, to create an everyday smart casual look, aimed at an 18-30 year olds wanting to bring something different to his wardrobe. My key product application I wanted to focus on was for outerwear, but with some smaller embroidered pieces for t-shirts and sportswear like running tights.
I chose to look into the theme ‘abstract nature’ because nature is something I’ve always been inspired by but whenever I’ve drawn it before it’s always been very literal, and although I did still want to bring in some very realistic observations, I wanted to contrast this with a more textural approach and use a variety of different embroidery techniques like Cornely, Tufter and Cable Stitch, which are things that I hadn’t really experimented with much before, so I wanted to challenge myself with things that I wasn’t that confident with. My drawing sources came from observations of natural forms and organic lines and texture in the outside world, I mainly focused on tree bark and fungus/ moss, because these brought contrasting qualities, the hard bark against the almost fluffy looking moss, so I thought this would be interesting to explore and portray through my samples.
